Underground Storage Tank Closure Services

As a Class I Underground Storage Tank Site Rehabilitation Contractor (UCC-0488), Evans Environmental Consulting provides underground storage tank (UST) and aboveground storage tank (AST) closure and assessment services. Whether the tank system is regulated by the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (SCDES) or is an unregulated system, such as a heating oil tank, we are here to help. We provide turnkey service, including SCDES notifications (for regulated tanks), removal (or closure-in-place), proper disposal of the tank, piping, contents, and backfilling.

Underground Storage Tank Location Services

If a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) has identified a potential UST or if you suspect a UST or your property but are unsure of its location, we can help. Utilizing ground penetrating radar (GPR) technology, we can scan accessible areas to identify subsurface anomalies indicative of a UST.

Underground Storage Tank Removal Services

If a UST is discovered, leave the rest to us. We will have the UST properly emptied, excavated, hauled off, and disposed. If the UST is registered with the SCDES, we will handle the required notifications and reporting. In certain situations for an unregistered UST that has had a release, we may be able to help get the UST registered, potentially qualifying the owner for State Underground Petroleum Emergency Response Bank (SUPERB) funding to assist with cleanup costs.

Underground Storage Tank Closure Assessment Services

We also provide closure assessments which are required for regulated tanks and recommended for unregulated tanks. Among other things, closure assessments involve the collection of samples for laboratory analysis and help to determine if there has been a release from the UST or AST system. Our closure assessments are conducted according to the SCDES Quality Assurance Program Plan (QAPP) for the Underground Storage Tank (UST) Management Division (rev 4.0) and our field personnel are Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 40-Hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) trained.
